8 Best Mom & Pop Restaurants in Oklahoma!

When you’re looking for some good old-fashioned comfort food, nothing beats a classic mom and pop restaurant. Some of the best family-owned establishments in Oklahoma are in small, rural towns, just adding to the authentic atmosphere. Here are the 8 best mom and pop restaurants in the state.

Clanton’s Café, Vinita, OK

Clanton’s has been serving up classic diner food since 1927. As such, it’s the oldest continually owned family restaurant along the Mother Road, Route 66, in Oklahoma. One of the waitresses has been with Clanton’s for 45 years, which tells you a lot about the family that owns it.

Murphy’s Steakhouse, Bartlesville, OK

The Hot Hamburger is the most popular dish at this local mom and pop that’s been serving Bartlesville since 1947. It starts out with toasted white bread topped with a chopped-up hamburger. French fries are piled on top, then it’s covered with a rich, beefy gravy.

Polly Anna Café, Woodward, OK

At Polly Anna Café, you’ll find homemade classics that are made right. The staff is awesome, but you might have to wait for your meal because they cook everything to order.

Rusty Barrell Supper Club, Ponca City, OK

The Rusty Barrell isn’t a diner, but it is locally owned and has been operated by the same couple since 1976. It’s got a speakeasy feel and the best salad bar around. They purchase beef from local sources and cook the steaks in the middle of the dining room.

Hammett House, Claremore, OK

Hammett House bills itself “as close to home cookin’ as it gets!” It’s still serving some of the same recipes that made it a classic feature in 1970, after it opened. They make all their rolls by hand and their signature pies.

Southern Belle, Heavener, OK

Typical American Southern cooking meets railroad car at this little place near the Arkansas/Oklahoma border. The restaurant is actually a restored train car that once hauled World War II troops. The Southern Belle Chicken is the house specialty, but all the food is excellent.

Wee Too, Enid, OK

Classic diner breakfasts at this little place in northern Oklahoma. It might be known for its garbage omelet, but it’s all really good. Plan to have a wait on the weekends.

Kirby’s Café, Okmulgee, OK

For homemade classics like potato soup, ham and beans, and meatloaf, you’ve got to check out Kirby’s. The specials and soups change daily, but you’ll always find something comforting and delicious here.
